What are Sweet Pizza Twists?

Sweet pizza twists are the perfect combination of sweet and chewy, made with layered pizza dough, sugar, cinnamon, and icing drizzled on top. You don’t have to have any advanced baking skills to make these twists. The recipe is simple and fun to make, with festive sprinkles on top.

How to Make Sweet Pizza Twists

You probably already have everything you need to make sweet pizza twists in your kitchen. Here is a list of some of the kitchen tools you will need.

Ingredients you will need:

Homemade Icing

Preheat your oven to 375º F. Then roll out your pizza dough and divide it into equal amounts. Make a square with the dough and brush it with melted butter. Sprinkle the cinnamon/ sugar mix.

Then lay the other square pizza dough on top of the first. Cut the square dough into inch-wide strips.

On a baking sheet, add a layer of parchment paper. Transfer dough strips to parchment paper and twist. Brush the melted butter on each twist. Then add each twist to the baking sheet with a little room between each one.

Fill the baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes. Drizzle with icing and red and green sprinkles. Voila, easy sweet pizza twists for your holiday sweet tooth.

You can modify the sweet goodies inside the dough, and instead of using sugar and cinnamon, you could use honey, maple syrup, or even agave syrup. Sprinkle in chopped nuts or dried fruit for an added crunch.

Or make them even more decadent with a layer of Nutella or chocolate spread with raisins and nuts. Really, you can add just about anything sweet to sweet pizza twists, so have fun and get creative with your fillings.

How to Make Savory Pizza Twists

If you don’t have much of a sweet tooth, you can make your pizza twists savory instead. To make savory pizza twists, you will need a few things.

The procedure is the same to make savory twists, but you will need to decide which sauce, cheese, and toppings you want to add to your pizza twists. Ideally, you don’t want to add too much of any one thing because the twists can get too soggy and fall apart.

Start with a square layer of pizza dough and brush on your sauce. Tomato paste works well because it is thicker than regular tomato sauce and pesto is also a good choice. Then, layer some toppings and sprinkle grated cheese.

Next, roll out the second pizza dough and lay it on top. You will need to press the sides down. At this point, it will look like a large hot pocket. Now cut the dough into strips. You will need to pinch the sides of each strip to keep all of the goodies inside.

Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet and twist each strip. Brush on butter or olive oil before baking — Bake at 375º F for ten to twelve minutes. Serve with a sprinkle of fresh Parmesano Reggiano and your favorite dipping sauce.

Sweet and savory pizza twists are fun to make, and they are easy recipes to get the whole family in on the fun. This holiday season, give the gift of time and spend time with your family making memories and pizza twists.

Pro Tips

  • Chill the dough for easier twisting
  • Mix the sugar and cinnamon before applying them to the dough to avoid any cinnamon clumps
  • Bake on parchment paper for an easy cleanup
